WOODLAND ELEMENTARY

WELCOME MESSAGE

Our school, Woodland Elementary, is located in the scenic town of Dildo, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland which is approximately 100 kilometers from the capital city of St. John's. Our students come from the communities of Blaketown, Broad Cove, New Harbour, Old Shop, and South Dildo.

We are a K-6 school which offers a variety of extracurricular activities to our students because we believe in the education of the whole child. We are also dedicated to creating a safe, healthy and positive environment for teaching and learning for all of our children and staff.

Remembrance Day Holiday:

There will be NO school on Wednesday, Nov. 11th due to the observance of Remembrance Day. Once again, this year our students will be participating in the Remembrance Day Legion Poster/Essay/Poetry Contest.

Walk for Breakfast:

We will be participating in our annual ‘Walk for Breakfast’ once again this year on Thursday, October 22nd, weather permitting. However, this year we will be taking a different route. We will walk down Hill Road and go as far as the Church parking lot, where we will turn around and walk back to school. We will begin with our Grade 6 students at 9:30 a.m. and each grade will leave in 10-minute intervals with kindergartens leaving last. Once again, we would like some volunteers for our primary grades for supervision purposes. If you are able to walk with us, please contact your child’s teacher.

We will not be sending home pledge sheets; however, online donations can be made and designated directly to our school by visiting www.kidseatsmart.ca There is a question located on the bottom of the webpage asking if the donation is for a specific school, just enter in our school name. If you did not want to make a monetary donation you can certainly send along food items for our ‘Grab and Go’ breakfast program. All items will be left for 48 hours prior to being used. We are looking for whole grain bars, granola bars (without nuts), Cheerios, cheese blocks/strings, Goldfish, yogurt tubes, cheese and crackers, Bear Paws, and Shreddies. Thank you in advance!

School Photos:

Lifetouch has been granted permission to enter schools for school photo purposes. Our students will have pictures taken on November 17th. Lifetouch will follow specific protocols while inside our school including social distancing of 2 meters at all times. There will be no class photos for Fall 2020.

Harbour Breeze:

We would like to welcome Debbie Fowler and Dana McCarthy as our cafeteria workers this year. Our cafeteria and canteen is up and running now. We are trying various options to make the delivery as efficient as possible and stay within the guidelines. If your child has an online order, please let your child know before coming to school what was ordered.

WEEK 2 will begin on Monday!
