WOODLAND ELEMENTARY

WELCOME MESSAGE

Our school, Woodland Elementary, is located in the scenic town of Dildo, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland which is approximately 100 kilometers from the capital city of St. John's.  Our students come from the communities of Blaketown, Broad Cove, New Harbour, Old Shop, and South Dildo.

We are a K-6 school which offers a variety of extracurricular activities to our students because we believe in the education of the whole child.  We are also dedicated to creating a safe, healthy and positive environment for teaching and learning for all of our children and staff.

Active NL Grant

We are pleased to inform you that we have been approved for the Active NL Grant for a total of $1,623. Thank you to Ms. Crocker for her work on this application. The funds will go towards purchasing new inside Phys. Ed. Equipment.

Outside Equipment Donations Wanted

Now that the weather is finally warming up a little, our students are able to use more outside equipment on the playground. As you can imagine, we are constantly having to replace balls, skipping ropes, buckets, etc due to the large number of students using the equipment.  We are asking for your help. If you have any gently used outside toys/equipment (small buckets, shovels, balls, scoops, skipping ropes, lawn toys, play kitchens, etc) or able to donate an outside toy, it would be greatly appreciated!  We will be purchasing new equipment in the coming weeks and will use some equipment from our inside equipment to help restock our equipment shed. However, as mentioned the equipment gets broken quickly and needs to be replaced periodically.

Inside Footwear

Your child will need a clean pair of sneakers for inside gym. We are finding a lot of our students are wearing their outside footwear inside, thus tracking mud through the hallways and in the gym itself. Having mud and sand on the gym floor is a safety concern while participating in gym class.

Volunteer Week

Volunteer Week is from April 14th to April 20th this year. I would like to take this opportunity to say how grateful and appreciative we are to have such fantastic volunteers at our school, not only this year but each and every year! To show our appreciation we will have a small celebration on May 15th. Further details to follow.

For Your Information

Crescent Spring Fair

On May 25th (9:00-2:00) Crescent Collegiate will be hosting a Spring Fair! They are looking for vendors so if you have a passion for selling products, whether they’re homemade goods, Tupperware, items from Epicure, etc. then this is a wonderful opportunity for you.  If you are interested in becoming a vendor please reach out at christopersweetland@nlschools.ca . You will be provided with all the details and guidance to make your participation seamless.

Skipping Program

Our skipping program is a wonderful program. We are finding a lot of students asking to call home each Wednesday to inform parents of this event. This program has been ongoing for awhile now, therefore all parents/guardians should be aware and have preparations made prior to the child leaving in the morning. If your child is not attending on a particular day, please let the teacher know, otherwise they will be expected to stay for practice.

Harbour Breeze:

This is week 2 on your menu!

Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to learning and growing together this school year.

Sincerely,

Staff of Woodland Elementary
